![]() ![]() Dating Advice at Cupid.comWho can you turn to for answers to your toughest questions about romance, dating and relationships? Looking to just find a date? Perhaps it's best to seek advice from Cupid.com's Director of Love for unbiased, no punches pulled advice. This Week's Questions:Dear Lisa, In 2002, I got dumped by a guy because I was clingy, I had sex with him too soon, and made all the rest of the mistakes that you detailed into your book. He was horrible: he made me pay for everything, he wanted me to drop everything at his whim, and all the rest of it. Imagine my surprise when he dumped me! My life went into tailspin after he dropped me: I dropped out of law school, got fired from the job that I took after I dropped out of school, and went through 8 months of the worst dating ever. Then, I saw you on "The View" and I got your book. This is so corny to say, but three years later after reading your book, I got engaged. During that time, I did what you said: I got my appearance together, lost weight (30 lbs), went back for my master's degree, got some females friends. I also went back to law school. I have a year to go before I finished law school BUT I won't get married until I finish law school. Even you said that a dream girl would never give up herself to be with a guy. I am happy with him. So, the point is this: before I read your book, I was really clueless. Your rules work, but they do take time and patience. It's a process of getting your confidence together. So, thank you. But please warn the wanna-be dream girls in training to bide their time and hang in there. Regards, "Happy at Last" Cupid.com's Director of Love responds: Dear Happy, You've just made my day. I am SO, SO proud of you. Congratulations to you and your fiancé, I'm sure he realizes how lucky he is to have you. I am also delighted that you are going to finish law school before you get married. Good for you! As you know, being in a relationship can be a wonderful thing, but it's so important to be your own person, and continue following your dreams. I think your story and your advice about being patient will be an inspiration to others. Since New Year's Eve (otherwise known as Resolution Day) is just around the corner, it seems like a good time to think about how it really is possible to change your life, one small step at a time. The reason people so frequently fail in their goals is a big goal can seem overwhelming or impossible, so they never try. The keys to finding love, writing a novel, or becoming a trapeze artist are all the same. Make one small effort to improve your life every day, and by this time next year, your life will be greatly improved. You don't need to win the lottery, you just need to do your thing. I'm just so proud of how you've turned your life around - I see great things for your future. Thanks so much for writing, it really means a great deal to me. Kisses,Lisa ![]()
